An arterial blood gas (ABG) collection is a specialised blood test used to evaluate how effectively your lungs are delivering oxygen to the blood and removing carbon dioxide. Unlike routine venous blood draws, which sample blood returning to the heart, an ABG sample is taken directly from an artery—usually the radial artery in the wrist—where the blood is rich in oxygen just after leaving the lungs.
